Privacy Starter Pack
A curated guide to privacy tools, organized by difficulty. Start with Beginner tools for immediate impact, then progress as you're ready.
Essential tools that provide immediate privacy benefits with minimal setup.
Password Manager
Unique passwords per site prevent credential stuffing attacks. If one site is breached, attackers can't reuse your password elsewhere.
2FA / Authenticator App
Adds a second layer of security. Even if your password leaks, attackers need your phone or hardware key.
Ad Blocker
Blocks tracking scripts, malicious ads, and reduces data collection. Also makes browsing faster.
VPN
Encrypts traffic on untrusted networks (coffee shops, airports). Hides your IP from your ISP. Not anonymity — use Tor for that.
Getting Started
Start with the Beginner tier. These four tools (password manager, 2FA, ad blocker, VPN) provide the biggest privacy gains with minimal effort. Once you're comfortable, move to Intermediate tools. Only tackle Advanced tools if you're ready for the trade-offs.
Remember: perfect privacy is impossible. Focus on tools that fit your threat model and lifestyle. Small consistent steps beat overwhelming changes.
